Origin and history of the tomato

The 'Golden Queen' is one of the few tomato varieties cultivated in Germany. It comes from the horticultural and seed company Friedrich Carl Heinemann from Erfurt and was probably already on the market in 1884. This makes it a really old historical variety, but it is still popular today.

Characteristics and taste of the ‘Golden Queen’ yellow tomato

The 'Golden Queen' is a yellow tomato variety that ripens from the end of July. Up to ten fruits grow at once per panicle. The medium-sized, round tomatoes reach a maximum weight of 80 grams, but usually stay below that. The plant reaches a height of up to 1.80 meters. The ripe tomatoes taste fruity and sweet, have almost no acidity and are generally soft and juicy.
The 'Golden Queen' is an old and seed-resistant variety from which you can easily get seeds yourself for next year.

Planting and caring for the 'Golden Queen' tomato

The 'Golden Queen' is not particularly susceptible to diseases and reliably produces many of its golden yellow fruits in the greenhouse. Since the fruits do not tend to burst, the 'Golden Queen' can also be planted outdoors without protectionPlant out.
She also likes to settle on a warm house wall with a sufficiently large pot. Fill the pot generously with substrate specially adapted to tomatoes, such as our Plantura organic tomato & vegetable soil. It already contains all the necessary nutrients for the start of the flowering season.

The 'Golden Queen' should be regularly pinched, but she can be trained very well with two or three shoots. Grow the 'Golden Queen' in a pot, so you can best provide it with a liquid fertilizer in the irrigation water. With its purely organic ingredients, our liquid Plantura organic tomato & vegetable fertilizer is ideal for providing your tomatoes with sufficient nutrients and ensures a rich harvest.

Harvesting and Using Golden Queen Tomatoes

The fruits of the 'Golden Queen' taste wonderfully fruity and are therefore best eaten fresh straight from the plant. In salads, they refine the taste and also look good. But the historic variety is also ideal for sauces and soups, especially when overripe fruits have become too floury.

The 'Golden Queen' isn't the only strain that is well suited to exposed outdoor growing. In our special article you will find other special varieties and tips for tomatoes outdoors.
