The 'Black Cherry' forms long trusses of reddish-brown to dark purple or brownish cherry tomatoes that can weigh up to 20 grams. The plant reaches a height of up to 250 centimeters, so it can get really tall. From the end of July until frost you can constantly harvest the juicy, soft fruits. Its taste is balanced between sweet and fruity, while being particularly aromatic and spicy. The 'Black Cherry' is a seed-resistant variety from which you can easily get tomato seeds yourself for next year.

Growing black cherry tomatoes outdoors and in pots

The fruits of the 'Black Cherry' are thin-walled and tend to burst open if the water supply is irregular. Therefore, the dark cherry tomato outdoors should only grow under rain protection. In the greenhouse and pot it needs enough space in height and width. From mid-May, the young plants of the 'Black Cherry' can be planted in pots and ideallya sunny, sheltered house wall. With a special tomato soil, such as our Plantura organic tomato soil, you ensure the initial nutrient supply for the cherry tomatoes.

Caring for black cherry tomatoes

Whether in a pot or in a bed, the high-growing 'Black Cherry' absolutely needs support. When pruning the tomato plants, you should make sure that two deep-seated side shoots remain. The 'Black Cherry' is more broad and bears its delicious fruit on a total of three shoots. During the season, the plant forms many small cherry tomatoes and needs a supply of nutrients, ideally in the form of an organic fertilizer. Our Plantura tomato liquid fertilizer in organic quality is ideal for pot tomatoes and is best fertilized weekly with the irrigation water. The 'Black Cherry' tomato always stays lush green and bears plenty of fruit until late autumn.

Harvesting and use of the 'Black Cherry' tomato

The 'Black Cherry' tastes best fresh from the bush, this is where it unfolds its full aroma. The dark color of the 'Black Cherry' causes a stir in salads and other dishes.
