Many people resort to expensive creams from the pharmacy for dry skin. But that doesn't have to be the case: we present home remedies for dry skin, some of which come from your own garden.

Especially in winter, many of us have the same problem: cold and dry heating air strain the skin and start to dry it out. Soon it begins to itch, tighten and become uncomfortably rough. Many now quickly resort to expensive creams or even medicines, which are supposed to make dry skin disappear in no time. You can also use a few simple tricks to ensure that the skin becomes radiantly beautiful again. You can find out which home remedies are suitable for dry skin in this article.
1. Aloe Vera
Hardly any plant is as well known for skin care as Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) But the aloe, which in used in many households as an exotic houseplant, is often only used in summer to treat a nasty sunburn - it can also be quite helpful in winter. Aloe Vera gel can work wonders as a home remedy for dry skin: The transparent gel can be easily obtained at home and is then applied to the dry areas, whereby it is not only hands and face but also very suitable for dry skin on the legs. However, one should not go out into the cold immediately after use, as the cold air immediately withdraws the moisture that has just been gained from the skin.

Carrots (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) may be a he althy winter snack, but they're not great for skin care, are they? Wrong thought - in fact, the large amounts of vitamin A and beta-carotene in the carrot are ideal for doing something good for stressed skin. The home remedy is a real insider tip, especially for dry skin on the face: Simply juice two carrots (ideally they should be organic) and massage the “facial tonic” into the affected areas. After 20 minutes, the carrot juice can be rinsed offwill. However, a bit of caution is advised because carrot juice can cause slight discoloration with repeated use or on very sensitive skin.

3. Marigold
The marigold (Calendula officinalis) is a true classic when it comes to home remedies for dry skin. The essential oils have an antibacterial effect and help irritated skin to regenerate quickly. The best known is probably the use of marigold ointment, which can also be easily made at home. To do this, 250 milliliters of cold-pressed olive oil and 50 grams of fresh, finely chopped marigold blossoms (only 25 grams for dried blossoms) are mixed and left to simmer in a saucepan over a low heat for about 15 minutes. The oil-blossom mixture is strained through a linen cloth so that the remains of the blossoms remain in the cloth. Then 25 grams of beeswax are added and the whole thing is heated again until the beeswax has melted before the marigold ointment can be filled. Once the marigold ointment has dried, it will be milky white in color and set. The wound healing and antibacterial effect of the marigold calms irritated areas, the contained olive oil protects the skin from drying out. The marigold ointment has therefore proven itself particularly as a home remedy for dry hands or feet, but also as a care for the face.

Admittedly, not everyone enjoys bees in their garden. But if you count yourself among the beekeepers or can get hold of natural honey in some other way, you have a real silver bullet in the fight against dry skin. Honey has an antibacterial and soothing effect, so it quickly relieves skin irritation. However, honey is not used pure, but mixed with moisturizing agents to make masks or oils. For example, honey is an effective home remedy for dry hands if you mix a teaspoon of it with two tablespoons of olive oil. A mask made from honey and low-fat quark is a home remedy for dry skin on the face - the lactic acid and honey have a moisturizing and soothing effect on the skin. Honey has also proven itself as a home remedy for dry lips, not only because of its caring properties, but also because of its pleasant taste.

5. Chamomile
Camomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is known to many only as a tea against gastrointestinal complaints or for colds. In fact, as a medicinal plant, chamomile also has a positive effect on the skin. Its soothing and antibacterial effect can be a great help, especially for dry and chapped skin or even inflamed skin areas. Creams or lotions with essential oils from chamomile blossoms are particularly popular, as they not only have a calming effect, but also moisturize the skin. But even simple chamomile tea can alleviate symptoms: The household remedy has proven particularly effective for dry hands - the hands are simply bathed briefly in the lukewarm chamomile tea. However, you should then apply a moisturizer - chamomile only has a soothing and antiseptic effect, but not a very moisturizing effect.
