Growing peppermint in the garden
- Location: Nutritious, humus-rich soil in a partially shaded location is important. A root barrier is recommended to prevent excessive spreading by root suckers. - Watering and fertilizing: In contrast to Mediterranean herbs, peppermint likes it moist, but only needs additional watering after planting out and during longer dry periods. A mulch layer of leaves or grass clippings prevents the soil from drying out. A light fertilizer application in spring helps the plants to get the new gardening season off to a good start. - Overwintering: Peppermint is well adapted to our climate and is therefore sufficiently hardy, but a light winter protection from brushwood cannot hurt.

- Pruning: It is advisable to cut back close to the ground in autumn.
