Bed roses: characteristics and growth habit

The term "bed roses" summarizes various roses that can be planted in groups or over a large area. They are characterized by their bushy growth and low stature. On average they are about 70 to 120 cm high. In order for your bed roses to stay in good shape, however, you should trim them regularly. If this does not happen or only to a small extent, the bed roses hardly differ from small shrub roses. Almost all modern floribunda varieties bloom repeatedly and delight us with their rich blooms throughout the summer.

A rose tree is basically a grafted stem rose

In the broadest sense, tea roses (hybrid teas) with their beautiful large flowers are also bed roses - you can find a comprehensive overview of beautiful tea rose varieties here. Polyantha and Floribunda roses, on the other hand, flower in clusters, with this group of roses generally offering a very wide variety of different flower colors and shapes. Some bed roses are also particularly heat-tolerant,semi-shade tolerant or rain hardy. Depending on the variety, they also smell very good or are characterized by a long flowering period. If you only have little space in the garden, it is best to use miniature roses, which only reach a height of 30 to 50 cm. Or, in this case, you can buy a hybrid tea rose that has been grafted onto a stem, a so-called standard rose.
