When you think of the classic rose, you usually have the image of a shrub or bush rose in mind. We introduce you to the 50 most beautiful varieties.

With the large selection of shrub roses, there is a suitable specimen for every garden

If you don't want to do without roses (Rosa) in your garden, but want to reduce the amount of work to a minimum, it is best to buy a shrub rose. The strong-growing bush roses not only grow in height, but also in width. In contrast to bed roses, however, you do not have to cut your shrub roses every year. In addition, they are versatile and are used both as a single shrub and in group plantings or as a hedge. Whether with red or yellow flowers, with or without fragrance - there are a variety of different varieties of shrub roses. While the robust park roses only bloom once, modern shrub roses enrich your garden with numerous flowers throughout the summer. In this article, we will explain what else makes the individual varieties different.

In the following we would like to introduce you to some of the most popular varieties of bushy shrub roses. At the end of the article we will also tell you what to consider when pruning shrub roses so that your rose produces a rich bloom.

Pruning shrub and bush roses

In contrast to bed roses, shrub roses do not require annual pruning. It is perfectly sufficient if you thin out frequently flowering varieties in spring (March/April) and remove the old branches to make room for new shoots and to prevent diseases. Pay attention to an airy and loose crown structure that still looks harmonious. The dead shoots are either removed at the base or shortened down to the he althy wood. Weak shoots of the shrub roses can be cut back to three to four buds. In the course of the summer you can also gradually remove the withered inflorescences and cut back the shoots a little. On the other hand, once-blooming shrub rose varieties form their flowers on perennial wood, which is why you should leave them alone as much as possibleshould, in order to benefit from a rich flowering in the same year.

In our special article we explain how to proceed correctly when cutting bed roses, climbing roses and the like.
