Oregano is a must on any pizza. In order to be able to harvest the Mediterranean spice from your own garden, however, a few care tips must be observed.

Oregano should be repotted regularly

Transplanting Oregano

In the bed, oregano can stand in the same location for several years without any problems. However, if the Italian spice classic is cultivated in a pot, care must be taken to allow the plant new, larger root space from time to time. A container that is too sparsely selected can quickly become too small for the subterranean shoot axis system (rhizome). Then the oregano has to be transplanted so that it gets new space and fresh substrate for rooting. A special herbal soil such as our peat-free Plantura organic herb and seed soil is ideal for this. In addition, a larger container avoids having to constantly water the oregano cultivated in the pot. Spring is the best time for repotting. It can be combined with dividing the plant (see Oregano: Successfully propagating) and a shaping pruning.
